West Seattle

Did you know there are over 58,000 persons in West Seattle? It would be the 5th largest city in Washington should it incorporate. The West Seattle Chamber of Commerce has an excellent website where you should be able to find all the information you need. To search for your home in West Seattle, here's a quick link.

There's more to West Seattle than the beach, but one cannot help but think of Alki Beach when the name 'West Seattle' is mentioned. This favorite Seattle destination overlooks the Olympic Mountains to the west. From Duwamish Head, one may see views of downtown Seattle as well. Here at Alki Beach, the West Coast's first city-owned saltwater beach, you will find 154 acres of sandy playground for volleyball or simply lounging. The world comes alive at West Seattle's beachfront promenade--the path which travels the nearly two miles of beachfront is for walkers and bicyclists.

It was here at Alki Beach (the area was named New York Alki, 'Alki' being Chinook for 'by and by') that settlers first landed in 1851. Today, at the intersection of Alki Avenue Southwest and 63rd Avenue Southwest you will find a monument erected to commemorate this landing.
